Koosh Galaxy Space Agent: Bolt Action Ballz

To contact us Click HERE

Early this year, several reports from the NY Toy Fair came out of the new 'Koosh Galaxy' blaster line from Hasbro; a series of ball shooting gear from the makers of Nerf that are aimed at a much younger market. (Hasbro have also reimagined the Koosh brand from the weird tentacley looking soft 'ball' thingy to now helm this 'Galaxy' line)
Of the Koosh Galaxy lineup, the one blaster that had an actual trigger was the "Space Agent", but I hadn't been able to find out a whole lot about it so in the end, I just went ahead and got one myself from Amazon and thought I'd give it a go...
Bright colours and youthful energy- that's what this box art is all about with a somewhat comical look about the logo and design. You can see the "From the makers of Nerf" badge on the box corner- caddying on the already great reputation of it's big brother brand. The obviously young kid on the front also suggests this ones for the wee tackers.
Inside the box, you get the blaster, the cocking pin, (much like with a Nerf Longshot or Longstrike) and 3 foam balls.

The Space Agent is clearly designed for younger kids in it's aesthetics- it's big, bright and bold with very exagerated lines and basically resembles something you'd see in a Saturday morning cartoon (a humerous Nickelodeon one as opposed to.. Transformers).

It's very well made and solid, which you'd expect given lil' ones aren't known for taking care of their gear so it has that real "Duplo"/"Fisher Price" feel to it. That being said, I think the 'toon look is cool.

The Space Agent is a ball blaster like all of the Koosh Galaxy range; it fires 3 rounds from an inbuilt top loaded 'clip' and uses a bolt action cocking mechanism to prime it. It's also the only blaster in the lineup that has a trigger, which is a plus. These are a completely new line so there's nothing here that is Nerf or other blaster line compatible, per se.

The ammo is a soft but dense foam ball that are probably not unlike the balls from other ball blasters from different lines. They don't bounce very well and kind of have that texture/smell of brand new sneakers:D They don't hurt on impact, but it doesn't tickle when you cop one in the nose:P
Loading the 'clip' is pretty easy- there's a protective slide door at the top of the Space Agent that you pull back, revealing a chamber to load the ammo.

There are little 'teeth' that hold the ammo in place as you load them one at a time. It only takes 3 and there's no way to force in more:)

Once the chamber is full, it's a matter of sliding the door back, and then cocking the priming bolt back and forth, just like with a Nerf Longshot.

It's still quite a stiff movement; I wouldn't say it's any easier than priming a Nerf blaster to be honest.

One of the selling points of the Space Agent is you can press a switch to make the ball curve to the left or right. I didn't really find the 'curve' that dramatic, and hence I just took at as a weird stupid way to make your blaster inaccurate:P So I didn't bother after that.  #throwawayfunctionality :P

Soo.. performances- well.. it's what it says. I mean it's made for really young kids, and it's a ball blaster so with those two things in mind, remember you're not gonna get much more than 6-8 metres. That being said, I thought it was actually kinda fun (I am a lil partial to the "chock!" noise of ball blasters) and the little kids I tested it with absolutely loved it. It's better for indoor fun and we were enjoying bouncing the ammo off walls but hardly something you're going to be bringing to an organised outdoor Nerf war:P (Refill balls are around 8 bucks for three anyway so it doesn't work out to be particularly cost effective to Nerf battle with these anyway..)

Three rounds of course is a little on the low side, even for a wee tacker so Koosh have got some cute acessories to come with their gear- in one swift moment you can now DOUBLE your ammo with this ball clip, bringing your rounds to.. six. :D

It has a 'dual' mechanism of either sliding onto your belt, or attaching to the Space Agent itself..

Kinda like a Nerf tactical rail.. yet not:D

Final thoughts- I actually quite like the Koosh Galaxy line- although I've always been sceptical of 'dumbing' down things for kids, I think these blasters are really neat. Sure, they're not gonna win any points for range, but I love the oversized zany 'toon town look about them (I'm expecting a large KABOOM) and think they'd be pretty appealing from a role play/aesthetic point of view.

They're really well made, and the lil' kids do love them. A colleague at work was horrified when she saw some of my other blasters and said she would never allow her son near them, but when I handed her the Space Agent, she was quite sold. As was her son:)

I haven't seen them in Australia, and only a scattering at US stores while on my trip, but they are available on Amazon.

SG Nerf: Nerf Pinpoint Sight in Singapore

Featured on SGNerf and courtesy of a gentleman named Bryan Ong is a look at a boxed new released Pinpoint sight. It's the new blue, orange and white colour scheme to match the new Elite blasters, but as SG Nerf points out in their post, there is no mention of 'Elite' anywhere.

We've been discussing the new release Jolt- maybe that's what's happened there- it's being re painted but doesn't necessarily feature the Elite branding. In any case.. there we have it. Rumour finally officially confirmed.

N-Strike Elite Stockade: Orange vs Grey trigger

The N-Strike Elite Stockade is now available on Australian shelves (well Toys R Us shelves for now) sporting the grey trigger meaning it has been slightly detuned for our stricter safety laws. Soo, in the name of research, I picked up an orange trigger unit from the UK to test out the differences between the two. We've already discussed the differences with the Retaliator and Hailfire, but I figured this one might be a lil' different, given it's come from the UK and not the US.

Bottom line, yes, head to head you can hear the motors of the UK model sound a lil' more powerful and in turn, I'd suggest it's the same as the Hailfire comparison we did last week- the orange trigger unit is going to be a lil more consistent with hitting the further ranges out of the box.

That being said, 1) indoor battle in my apartment, the difference is negligible at best, 2) if you're a voltage modder that'll just negate any difference right there. I can't see it being worth it to import one and pay the ridiculous shipping costs just to have that extra lil bit of kick. Up to you of course:D

Rumours: Elite Jolt-probably.

We had more photos of the alleged Nerf Elite Jolt arrive today, and I really do have to say this is looking like the real deal. The extra muzzle attachment, the blue plastic (vs an orange regular jolt painted) and the orange priming arm and trigger for me looks pretty authentic. The original N-Strike logo is of course been the main hot issue behind whether this IS 'Elite' or just a regular Jolt factory repaint, but the owner of these has suggested it's hitting harder than a regular Jolt but that's to be confirmed at a later stage.
Maybe it's an upgraded spring? Or maybe it's just because of the darts/in our heads? We'll see eventually. More pics after the jump. Thanks AC for the intel!

NERF branded attractions coming to the UK

Well, it was bound to happen. I reckon there's a good chance we've all at least one time in our Nerf life thought "you know what would be a really cool business idea? Setting up our own Nerf themed indoor/outdoor arena"..

Well looks like someone's taken it further and made it a reality- 4-traders.com have reported that UK company Paragon Entertainment have just entered a licencing agreement with Hasbro for the rights to build and operate Nerf themed attractions in the UK.

"Under the terms of the license, Paragon will design, build and operate Nerf attractions which will consist of purpose-built Nerf action arenas and Nerf blaster target ranges, with additional concepts in development. These attractions will also include a retail space where visitors can buy their favourite blaster"

Apparently first cab of the rank will be at the Westfield Shopping Mall in Merry Hill due to be opened by the end of the year?

You won't trip down the aisle with this cute idea!

My wedding was a LONG time ago, but I still remember the panic about tripping down the aisle. We were married in a field at our farm and the aisle runner was nothing more than a white, free floating strip of nylon placed on fluffy, uneven field grass. I had to encourage my bridesmaids to goose-step like the Russian army so as to not pitch themselves into the seated guests.

Since out door weddings haven't ever lost their charm, I thought this was an adorable idea to decorate the "aisle" without that tripping stress that you didn't know you had to worry about until I just freaked you out with it (thank me later). Two paper hearts are taped to a stick (like a wooden skewer) and pushed into the ground. Super easy and do-able long before the wedding. This idea was featured on one of my favorite wedding blogs 100 Layer Cake. Of course the cuteness for this wedding doesn't stop there. I love their dessert table full of all different cakes because it reminds me of a State Fair Baking contest, you know? And that colorful backdrop is so attractive! You'll probably want to see more so check out the entire wedding here.

Rant: We're all blaster snobs

Clearly, she's done this before.. never.
I was standing in the toy gun aisle in a Target the other day while I overheard a conversation a man was having with what I think was his gf/wife about Super Soakers. He picked up a Thunderstorm box and showed it to her and said "I got me two of these, Fully automatic madness. I'm gonna totally own Dan's kids next time we have a water fight"

She seemed suitably impressed and said the customary grown up thing to say of "they look so dangerous, so different to when WE were kids" and thought he was an all round wacky kinda guy.

I just looked at them in horror, quietly shook my head and thought to myself "lightweight":P Are you serious? Water guns when you were a kid would totally destroy two Thunderstorms.

How many times has this happened to you when you hear someone talk about toy blasters like they're an expert but really, they have no clue and you can't help but think they're a total noob? Yup, that's how I felt. And then I realised. Dear god, I am a blaster snob..

Ever been to some sort of regular mixer and some guy is trying to go on about how awesome he is because he bought a Nerf gun and boasts about it being a 6 shooter and you feel the massive desire to just jump in and say "that's a Maverick, it's been around for ages, normally the first gun any 8yo gets in the Nerf range, whatever chump"? Then you're a blaster snob.

If you've ever had some friend of yours who's a parent go on about how their kid has "so many Nerf guns" and you look at their collection and say "yawn, yeah I've got them all but that one isn't very good, you obviously don't love your child very much" then... you're a blaster snob.

Ever had someone come to you to tell you about the "latest Nerf gun" and you say "I have it, that's not new".. then you're a blaster snob.

Do you read websites where mainstream journalists write about toy blasters and obviously have no real idea what they're on about, and the photos they show with them holding one like it's from another planet just make you want to cringe and write a comment under their article letting them know the Nitron is NOT the biggest Nerf blaster out there and they're "holding it by the clip, noob"? Then you're a blaster snob.

If you've ever said "it's a blaster, not a gun" then you're a blaster snob.

If you take pleasure in absolutely outclassing some punk who thinks he's the shiz with his stock Recon with your heavily modded to death Longshot and making it rain foam all over him while telling him exactly WHY his blaster is inferior to yours, even if said punk is only 10 years old and you're old enough to be his dad.. then you're a blaster snob.

If you actually read this blog, and blogs like it.. then you're a blaster snob. Especially if you find inaccuracies in my posts and call me on it. Then you're a pedantic douche of a blaster snob:P (hehe)

And, if you've ever cringed at a mother buying a Cosmic Thruster, you know you're probably a blaster snob too. Although if you throw yourself in front of her and stop her and convince her to buy something else, you're just a good Samaritan :D
